I'm super excited for the new year!  I have a bunch of stuff on my agenda, most importantly, the completion of Path of Blood!  It's going to be an amazing year I can tell.  I am also hard at work on another music video.  This one is going to be a bit different.  I'm approaching it as a landscape of love and romance as seen in a dream.  Here's a few images from pre production.  Let's make the new year one to remember!!!

The Boxing Lesson - Better Daze

Check out my latest animated music video for The Boxing Lessons song "Better Daze"!  The process involved shooting live action footage and animating paper cut out creatures over a green screen.  I think the incorporation worked out pretty well.  It was an experiment that I am happy with.  I'd love to maybe do something else in this style, but super colorful next time... and shoot in a forest!  Anyways check it out and show the band some love.  They are awesome!

Special Thanks to my friend Daniel Horner for helping me shoot some of those scenes, and to my sister! :D

Test still for new music video

So I am working on a new music video that I hope to have finished for Halloween. I am going for a mix of live action and cut paper animation.  It's something I've never done before, but my tests show that it is gonna work.  I'm pretty happy with how it is going so far.  It'll be creepy, but I'm most excited about the little bits of humor, cause some of my creatures are pretty funny looking.

This one is called a Droog.  He's not very social and has a hard time fitting in.  Be nice to him.

This is just some weird slug thing.  It doesn't have a name (yet).  Here it is slugging around a parking garage.

Be on the lookout for the video!!!

Quiet Company - You, Me, and the Boatman

Last year, before I began work on Path of Blood, I made this animated music video for Quiet Company's song You, Me and the Boatman.  After many months, I am happy to be able to share it with you all!  It's been a long time since I've made a music video, and I must admit, I'm missing it.  I can't wait to wrap this film and work on some more!

Voice over recording wrapped last week!   Very exciting.  It was fun and I feel everyone really gave it their all.  It's nice finally getting to see my little paper characters speak.  Now onto some intense animating.  More good news: the score for the film is coming along and I got to hear some rough stuff.  It is, no joke, amazing.
Oh and check out this new logo I made for the opening of my film.  I modeled it after the awesome Toho logos from the 70's, but gave it a animation flair and some funky colors.  It sets the mood for sure.

Mid Summer update

Well, time certainly flies!

You probably already know this, but I'm working like crazy on Path of Blood.  There is so much to do it is sometimes overwhelming.  I am, however, in excellent spirits and am shooting some truly fantastic animation.  I wish I could share more at this point, but I am keeping a lot of details about the film close to the chest for the time being.  There is some great news though!  I officially cast my voice actors for the film!  They are great people.  I am confident in my choices and am looking forward to the recording sessions which will be taking place this month.  WOW!  Once the recording is over, things are really going to get interesting.  At that point I will have everything I need to finish animating this sucker.
I am holding off on making trailers and whatnot til after production is complete.  I've got a serious deadline in mind for completion of the film, so every day has to make a difference at this point.  I knew it was going to be tough making a feature animated film.  It turns out I was right! :D

More soon...

Film Update

So I am back in Austin Texas where I plan on finishing production of the film.  I will be recording the voice actors and working with my music gurus on getting the score worked out.  For right now I am busy shooting animation still.  It's definitely a long process, but the stuff is coming along at a nice pace.  I'm not sure when I will do another video diary, since I really have to focus on churning out footage, but it will happen eventually.  It's the home stretch right now... well a 5 month stretch, but still.  Check out this screenshot from some shadow animation I shot today!

A fork in the road

Me and my Mantis

Just a quick pic to freshen up this space. I'm hard at work on animation for P.O.B. and things are going very well. I will make another production diary soon.

Animation Underway

I've been animating the film since the year began.  It's going incredibly well so far!  I'm shooting some shadow stuff right now, and wanted to share a still.  I need to do another video diary soon.  I'm hoping I can pry myself away from the animation for a day sometime in the very near future.  It's tough.  It's kind of addicting seeing this film come together.
